The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education has refused teach the Israeli curricula at Palestinian schools in Jerusalem as a pre-condition to receiving funds for renovation purposes.

The Ministry affirmed that such a decision constitutes ‘a declaration of war on Arab and Palestinian identity in Jerusalem.’ The Ministry has viewed the decision as an Israeli attempt to Judaize the city and its schools and to violate one of the most basic rights of occupied nations – maintaining its own culture and identity.

The Ministry noted that Israel’s campaign against schools in Jerusalem would reach its peak in September when the academic year begins. The Ministry has repeatedly warned against the consequences of this campaign on Palestinians.

It has called on wealthy Arab donors to provide funds for the schools in order to avoid being forced to abide by Israel’s decision.
