The mission is the largest effort of its kind, aiming to reach Gaza to break Israel’s illegal siege on the enclave.
The Global Sumud Flotilla organizers said on Monday that its ships are 715 nautical miles from Gaza as they converge in international waters ahead of an attempt to break Israel’s illegal blockade on the enclave.
In a statement, the coalition said its Greek fleet is expected to join “in the coming days” as part of the humanitarian mission.

“The ships of the Global Sumud Flotilla are now coming together with the Greek fleet joining soon, as we head into the final weeks of our humanitarian mission to reach Gaza and break Israel’s illegal blockade,” it stated.
‘Five Days from High-Risk Zone’
A video released by the coalition showed the vessel Sirius with a date stamp of September 22, noting it was “five days from the high-risk zone” and “seven days from Gaza.”
Organizers said more than 40 vessels are converging in international waters for the mission.
A Symbol of Global Resistance: Why Israel Fears the Gaza Flotillas
Recently, dozens of ships have been sailing from North African and European ports toward Gaza as part of the humanitarian mission to break the Israeli siege.
The mission is the largest effort of its kind, aiming to reach Gaza, where 2.4 million Palestinians live under an Israeli blockade that has lasted 18 years.
Israel has previously intercepted Gaza-bound ships, seizing the vessels and deporting those on board.
Over 65,300 Killed
For the first time, a UN body recently concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.
Since reneging on the ceasefire on March 18, Israel has continued its bloody aerial bombardment across the Gaza Strip, killing and wounding thousands of Palestinians.

Starting on October 7, 2023, the Israeli military, with American support, launched a genocidal war against the people of Gaza. This campaign has so far resulted in the deaths of more than 65,000 Palestinians, with more than 165,000 wounded. The vast majority of the population has been displaced, and the destruction of infrastructure is unprecedented since World War II. Thousands of people are still missing.
ICJ, ICC Cases
In addition to the military assault, the Israeli blockade has caused a man-made famine, leading to the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians—mostly children—with hundreds of thousands more at risk.
Despite widespread international condemnation, little has been done to hold Israel accountable. The nation is currently under investigation for genocide by the International Court of Justice, while accused war criminals, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are officially wanted by the International Criminal Court.
