Palestinian Parties Unite Ahead of Vote

Five leftist parties of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) join forces to form the broadest national coalition ahead of the upcoming elections.

Following the coalition process, the candidates met at one of the parties’ headquarters in Tulkarem on Saturday. They said the aim behind the coalition was to expand the national alliance.

The coalition took effect between candidates from the Popular Struggle and Palestinian Arab Fronts joined with Feda and the Palestinian and Arab Liberation Fronts.

While the coalition will stand third in Palestinian politics, it is still considered small compared to its Fatah and Hamas rivals, Ma’an News Agency reported.

In their first campaign statement ahead of the July municipal elections, the coalition condemned "Israeli provocations," particularly the recent mosque arson at the hands of Israeli settlers, and other Israeli moves that "disregard Islamic values."
