Gaza’s Government Media Office released staggering numbers of the death and devastation wrought on the enclave during Israel’s two years of genocidal assault on the enclave.

Two million Palestinians were forcibly displaced over the two years of Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza, with preliminary losses in key sectors exceeding $70 billion, the Government Media Office in the enclave announced on Friday.

As scores of residents began to make their way home following the Israeli army’s withdrawal to the yellow line as per the ceasefire deal, the office announced that a national appeal was made for citizens to cooperate and maintain discipline to ensure the success of the recovery phase.

Ceasefire Violation: Israel Shells Gaza Hours after Agreement Ratified

“We urge you not to approach or return to areas where occupation forces were present, particularly the border areas of Gaza City, until after an official announcement of the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces and confirmation of this by the relevant authorities,” the General Directorate of Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip said earlier.

90% of Infrastructure Destroyed

Israel destroyed 90 percent of the civilian infrastructure and seized more than 80 percent of Gaza’s territory “through invasion, fire, and forced displacement, crimes that constitute grave violations of international law and crimes against humanity,” the Media Office said in a statement.

In addition, Israel dropped more than 200,000 tons of explosives on the Gaza Strip and bombed the Al-Mawasi area more than 150 times, despite claiming it was a “safe humanitarian zone.”

“This proves that targeting civilians was a deliberate policy, not an accident,” the Office stated.

Over the two years, around 77,000 Palestinians were killed or went missing, including more than 67,000 Palestinians reported killed, while around 9,500 remain missing.

Among the killed, over 20,000 children and 12,500 women, including 9,000 mothers and more than 22,400 fathers, as well as over 1,000 infants under one year old, and 450 newborns who were born and killed during the genocide, the statement added.

Israel “also committed horrific massacres against more than 39,000 families, including thousands that were completely exterminated or left with only a single survivor. As a result, more than 55% of the martyrs are children, women, and the elderly.”

Humanitarian, Medical Staff Killed

In targeting humanitarian and service personnel, more than 1,670 medical staff, 140 civil defense members, 254 journalists, and over 1,000 civil defense and police officers were killed while performing rescue missions, securing aid, or serving and protecting their communities.

Hundreds of municipal workers and humanitarian relief staff were also killed, the statement noted.

The number of wounded and injured has reached around 170,000, “including thousands who require rehabilitation or treatment abroad, in addition to hundreds who have suffered amputations, paralysis, or loss of sight.”

More than 6,700 Palestinian detainees remain subjected to severe torture in Israeli prisons, including medical and media personnel, it stated.

Health Sector, Schools ‘Collapsed’

The health sector has completely collapsed following the destruction and shutdown of 38 hospitals, dozens of health centers, and ambulances. Healthcare facilities were targeted more than 788 times.

Israel also destroyed 670 schools and 165 universities and educational institutions, killing 13,500 students, 830 teachers, and 193 academics and scholars, “in a deliberate attempt to eradicate Palestinian consciousness,” the office said.

In attacks on houses of worship, Israel completely destroyed 835 mosques, partially damaged dozens more, attacked three churches, destroyed 40 cemeteries, stole more than 2,450 bodies, and established seven mass graves inside hospitals, “acts reflecting the deepest levels of moral and human depravity.”

In terms of housing, Israel completely destroyed around 300,000 housing units and severely or partially damaged another 200,000, displacing nearly two million people “who were forced to live in worn-out tents unfit for human life, enduring the harshest conditions imaginable.”

Crossings Closed for Over 600 Days

Israel prevented “hundreds of thousands of aid trucks” from entering the enclave, with border crossings closed “for over 600 days to aid deliveries.”

Ceasefire Deal ‘Will Bring Respite’: UNRWA Supplies ‘Ready to Go’ into Gaza

“We condemn the genocide and ethnic cleansing crimes committed by the occupation over the past two years and call for an urgent and transparent plan for Gaza’s full reconstruction,” the Media Office said.

It also noted that as “a new phase begins, we call on our people to cooperate with governmental and humanitarian institutions,” adding that it “will not relent in defending our people’s rights and rebuilding what the occupation destroyed.”

Ceasefire in Effect

The Israeli army announced on Friday that the Gaza ceasefire agreement came into effect as of 12 noon local time (0900 GMT), following a US-brokered ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel.

“Starting at 12:00, army forces took up positions on the new operational deployment lines based on the ceasefire agreement and the return of the abductees,” the Israeli army said in a written statement sent to Anadolu.

“Army forces are deployed in the southern command in the area and will continue to work to remove any immediate threat,” the statement continued, without providing further details.

Later, US Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff announced that Israeli occupation forces had completed their Gaza withdrawal to the yellow line, as stipulated in the ceasefire agreement.

“CENTCOM has confirmed that the Israeli Defense Forces completed the first phase withdrawal to the yellow line at 12PM local time,” he stated on X. “The 72 hour period to release the hostages has begun.”

Over 67,000 Killed

Gaza’s Ministry of Health announced on Friday that 17 Palestinians were killed and 71 injured due to the Israeli aggression on the enclave in the past 24 hours.

After The Prisoner Exchange, over 11,000 Palestinian Hostages Will Remain

It said “a number of victims are still under the rubble and on the roads, as ambulance and civil defense crews are unable to reach them.”

The total death toll has risen to 67,211, with 169,961 injured, since October 7, 2023.

  1. While Trump and the USA may have been instrumental in pressuring both Israel and Hamas into a ceasefire and, potentially, a long-term peace agreement, we must never forget that without the ‘unwavering’ support (and arms supplies) of the US, Israel would not have had the wherewithal, or balls, to carry out the atrocities and genocide that has resulted in the 77,000 dead and missing.
