Katz on Monday ordered a re-investigation of an external assessment of the army’s probe into the failures surrounding the October 7, 2023, operation by the Palestinian Resistance.

Tensions appear to be escalating between Israeli Security Minister Israel Katz and the army’s top leadership, as senior commanders warn that political interference risks undermining the military at a critical moment, the Lebanese Al Mayadeen news network reported on Thursday, citing Israeli media.

According to the network, the Israeli Maariv reported that military leaders “believe they must act decisively to prevent any renewed combat scenario that could destabilize Israel and place further strain on the already overstretched army.”

The tension, simmering for weeks, heightened on Wednesday when Israeli Army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir called for “courageous, transformative” leadership that does not “evade” but “sets a new direction”, the Times of Israel reported.

Al Mayadeen cited Israeli media as saying the speech’s “tone and timing” were interpreted as veiled criticism of the government and as a message directed at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Katz.

October 7 Re-Investigation

Tensions heightened on Monday when Katz ordered a re-investigation of an external assessment of the army’s internal probes of the failures surrounding the October 7, 2023, operation by the Palestinian Resistance.

According to Al Mayadeen, the move was widely seen as “a direct rebuke of the military’s handling of the investigations.”

Netanyahu Cabinet’s Complicity in the Gaza Genocide

Zamir, in response, reportedly accused Katz of political interference and undermining the military’s preparedness by freezing senior military appointments for 30 days.

Al Mayadeen stated that as the rift deepens, “observers note that the dispute reflects a broader structural strain between Israel’s political and military establishments at a moment marked by turbulent regional dynamics and contentious internal debates over accountability and leadership.”

The two officials met separately with Netanyahu on Tuesday, according to the Times of Israel, in an effort to defuse tensions. This came after Katz refused to meet with Zamir, the report stated.

Staggering Death Toll

Starting on October 7, 2023, the Israeli military, with American support, launched a genocidal war against the people of Gaza. This campaign has so far resulted in the deaths of close to 70,000 Palestinians, with more than 170,000 wounded. The vast majority of the population has been displaced, and the destruction of infrastructure is unprecedented since World War II. Thousands of people are still missing.

Renewed Israeli Strikes Kill Four Palestinians in Gaza, Dozens of Violations Recorded

In addition to the military assault, the Israeli blockade has caused a man-made famine, leading to the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians, mostly children, with hundreds of thousands more at risk.

Despite widespread international condemnation, little has been done to hold Israel accountable. The nation is currently under investigation for genocide by the International Court of Justice, while accused war criminals, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are officially wanted by the International Criminal Court.

  1. Zamir should do the world a favor and arrest all the Jewish Nazis in the illegitimate government, and dissolve the illegitimate land of Israel. Call it, Wasrael, Palestine.
