Fadwa Barghouthi, the wife of Palestinian prisoner Marwan Barghouti, said that the Tunisian Parliament yesterday expressed its support for her husband’s nomination for the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize.

In a statement following a meeting with the Tunisian Parliament Speaker Mohammed Nasser, Fadwa said they discussed “the Palestinian issue and the status of prisoners and detainees in Israeli jails.”

“We have heard from the speaker of the parliament, on behalf of all the parliamentary blocs, great support for the fighter Marwan Barghouti, as they paid tribute to his steadfastness, persistence and constant struggle, and they supported his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.”

She added that Tunisia will nominate her husband for the award.
