Israeli Army Spokesman: ‘Hamas Military Base is under Shifa Hospital’

Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari claimed in a briefing for international reporters that Hamas’s main base of operations is under Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. 

“We have concrete evidence that hundreds of terrorists flooded into the hospital to hide there after the massacres of October 7,” Hagari said, according to The Times of Israel. 

Hagari reportedly went on to say that Hamas officials “operate inside and under Shifa hospital – and other hospitals in Gaza”.

“When medical facilities are used for terror purposes, they are liable to lose their protection from attack in accordance with international law,” Hagari warned.

Al-Shifa Hospital,  located in the neighborhood of North Rimal in Gaza City,  is the largest medical complex in the Gaza Strip.

According to official data from the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza, Israel deliberately targeted 57 health institutions and put 12 hospitals and 32 primary care centers out of service since the beginning of the war. 

On Tuesday, October 17, a massive airstrike hit the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of Palestinian civilians.

Initially, a top aide for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hananya Naftali, took responsibility for the attack on the X platform.

In the following hours, Israel said that the mass killing of Palestinians in Al-Ahli was a result of a misfired rocket launched by the Palestinian group, Islamic Jihad.

Since then, multiple investigations have debunked the Israeli army’s claim that the bombing was the outcome of a misfired missile launched by the Palestinian Resistance.
