A US State Department official resigned in protest of the Biden Administration’s decision to continue transferring weapons to Israel during its military aggression on the besieged Gaza Strip, The New York Times reported on Thursday.

According to the NYT, Josh Paul, who has been the director of congressional and public affairs for the State Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs for over 11 years, wrote in the resignation letter that the Biden administration showed “blind support for one side”, leading to decisions that were “shortsighted, destructive, unjust and contradictory to the very values we publicly espouse.”

“The response Israel is taking, and with it the American support both for that response and for the status quo of the occupation, will only lead to more and deeper suffering for both the Israeli and the Palestinian people.” he reportedly wrote.

“Continuing to give Israel what he described as carte blanche to kill a generation of enemies, only to create a new one, does not ultimately serve the United States’ interests, Mr. Paul said,” according to the NYT.

In a ‘solidarity’ visit to Israel on Wednesday, US President Joe Biden reiterated his total support for Netanyahu’s war on the Palestinians, going as far as blaming Palestinians for a gruesome massacre at the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City on Tuesday.
