Fighters belonging to the Al-Qassam Brigades have managed to infiltrate by sea and land an area near Zikim, located south of Asqalan (Ashkelon) in the south of Israel.

Clashes lasted for hours as some of the fighters managed to reach several kilometers deep inside Israeli territories, media reports indicated.

The latest penetration on Tuesday is the third such battle – acknowledged by Israeli media – since the start of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation.

The Al-Qassam Brigades said that its “naval force (managed to) infiltrate by sea the .. beaches of Zikim, south of occupied Asqalan, and armed clashes are now taking place with the occupation army in that area.”

Elias Karam, a correspondent for Aljazeera Arabic Channel said that this naval penetration by Hamas is possibly the largest by the Resistance since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza after the Al-Aqsa Flood operation on October 7.

Media reports say that sirens sounded twice in the settlements of Zikim and Kermia following the news of the infiltration.

Karam also pointed out, citing Israeli media reports, that “previous infiltration operations were carried out by a few members of the Resistance, but the number of infiltrators this time seems large.”

An Israeli military spokesman claimed the infiltration at Zikim beach had been thwarted and said its forces were still combing the area, but gave no details on the scale of the operation and the number of participants.

The spokesman said that Palestinian naval commandos had infiltrated through a tunnel into the sea and then into the Zikim beach.

Israel’s Channel 12 said at least ten Palestinian fighters were killed by Israeli naval fire, while Channel 14 said clashes were still ongoing in the area.

Video footage showed what appeared to be flares fired by the Israeli military in the area to monitor the Hamas fighters.

“Reports from the area indicate that a number of members of the Al-Qassam force may have succeeded in penetrating three to four kilometers deep, clashing with the occupation soldiers,” AJA reported.
