Egypt’s president warned on Saturday against using Gaza’s southern Rafah border crossing to intensify the blockade on the besieged Gaza Strip.
“Egypt rejects using the Rafah crossing as a tool to tighten the siege on the Palestinian people in Gaza,” Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated during a press conference in Cairo with Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic, according to the Anadolu News agency.
He emphasized Egypt’s call for “an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire at the soonest time and Egypt’s categorical rejection of any form of displacement as well as any attempt to liquidate the Palestinian cause”.
On May 7, the Israeli army took control of the Rafah crossing, linking Gaza and Egypt, following an announcement by Tel Aviv of a military operation in Rafah, despite international warnings about the consequences.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza has since worsened, with blocked aid, suspended medical transfers abroad, and the closure of most hospitals.
Sisi also highlighted the necessity of halting Israeli attacks on civilians and violent actions by illegal settlers in the West Bank.
Moreover, Egypt condemned Israel’s bombing of the densely populated Al-Mawasi area in southern Gaza.
At least 71 Palestinians were killed and 289 were injured on Saturday when Israeli occupation forces targeted tents of displaced people in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, an area previously designated as ‘safe’.
Al-Jazeera reported that the Israeli army conducted violent raids with five missiles on displacement camps west of Khan Yunis, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries.
Following the bombing, the ministry called on Israel to “stop disregarding the lives of innocent civilian citizens and to adhere to the required humanitarian standards in compliance with international law and humanitarian law.”
Egypt condemned the attack on displaced Palestinians in Al-Mawasi, asserting that “such crimes … cannot be accepted under any pretext.”
The ongoing violations, Egypt reiterated, complicate efforts to achieve a ceasefire, increasing Palestinian suffering amid international silence and inaction.

More than 70% of respondents said the prime minister should step down immediately or when the war in Gaza is over.
Nearly three-quarters of Israelis want Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign over his government’s failures during the October 7 Hamas attack, according to a poll published by Israel’s Channel 12 on Friday.
Out of the 72% of respondents who said that the prime minister should step down, 44% believe he should leave office immediately, while 28% suggested he should resign after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conclude their military operation in Gaza.
Israelis have repeatedly organized protest rallies against Netanyahu since the war in Gaza erupted, with many calling for a ceasefire and urging the government to bring back the remaining captives held by Hamas and other Palestinian Resistance groups.

On October 7 last year, Hamas and other Palestinian groups carried out a surprise raid on Israeli military bases and other locations in what is known as the Gaza Envelope. In many places, Israeli officers were seemingly caught off-guard and quickly overwhelmed.
The Israeli media described the attack as a “devastating intelligence failure,” with Channel 12 reporting that the army failed to properly maintain a signal system at the border with Gaza.
The York Times reported in November that Israeli intelligence and military officials obtained Hamas’s plan for the October 7 incursion more than a year before it occurred, but believed it was too unrealistic to pull off.
On Thursday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant urged the government to form a state commission that would investigate the failures in response to the October 7 raid. Netanyahu, however, has argued that such a probe can only be launched after the war ends.
Gaza Genocide
Currently on trial before the International Court of Justice for genocide against Palestinians, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 38,345 Palestinians have been killed, and 88,295 wounded in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza starting on October 7.
Moreover, at least 11,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.
Palestinian and international organizations say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.
The Israeli war has resulted in an acute famine, mostly in northern Gaza, resulting in the death of many Palestinians, mostly children.
The Israeli aggression has also resulted in the forceful displacement of nearly two million people from all over the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely crowded southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt – in what has become Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba.
Later in the war, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians began moving from the south to central Gaza in a constant search for safety.
The MPs, including Jeremy Corbyn, pointed to the latest report by the leading medical journal, The Lancet, which estimates that “even a conservative measure of the death toll in Gaza could exceed 186,000.”
Five newly-elected independent MPs have written to the UK government demanding amongst other actions; the immediate suspension of arms to Israel and to use its permanent UN Security Council member status to advocate for a sustainable ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip.
“There is no doubt that you will be aware that the situation on the ground in Gaza worsens moment by moment. The urgency for action cannot be understated,” the MPs said in a letter addressed to the Foreign Secretary, David Lammy.
The MPs, including Jeremy Corbyn, pointed to the latest report by the leading medical journal, The Lancet, which estimates that “even a conservative measure of the death toll in Gaza could exceed 186,000.”
In addition, it said, independent UN experts have declared that famine has now spread throughout the Gaza Strip, with the recent deaths of more Palestinian children “due to hunger and malnutrition.”
ICC Case
Given these factors, and in light of the provisional measures issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the MPs said it issued the letter to “remind” the government of its “obligations under international law.”
They issued several demands including for the government to “Immediately suspend all provision of weapons and weapons systems to the Government of Israel”; “Immediately restore and increase funding to UNRWA”; as well as “Issue a public statement supporting the implementation of measures as advised” by the ICJ.”
The MPs also urged the government to “Drop any legal challenge over the ICC’s right to seek an arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes” and to “issue a public statement” to announce the cessation of the challenge to the ICC.
In May, the previous government under Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak challenged the ICC on whether it had any jurisdiction to issue arrest warrants for top Israeli officials, including Benjamin Netanyahu.
The newly elected government has been given until July 26 by the ICC to decide whether to pursue the matter.
The MPs also called on the UK to utilize its permanent member status on the UN Security Council to advocate for “an immediate and sustainable ceasefire.”
They also urged that the government advocate for the deployment of a UN peacekeeping force to Gaza, “upon reaching a ceasefire agreement.”
The government was also urged to suspend the 2030 Road Map for UK-Israel bilateral relations and negotiations, and “consider the possibility of imposing sanctions” as well as to “Recognise the State of Palestine with immediate effect.”
In addition to Corbyn, the letter was signed by Adnan Hussain, Ayoub Khan, Iqbal Mohamed and Shockat Adam.
The five said they were elected by their respective constituents, in part, to “represent their concerns regarding the ongoing catastrophic situation in Gaza,” which they pointed out, has been described by the ICJ as a plausible genocide.

UPDATE: The death toll of the Israeli massacre targeting tents of displaced people in Khan Yunis has risen to 91, while the number of wounded has risen to over 300.
At least 50 Palestinians were killed on Saturday when Israeli occupation forces targeted tents of displaced people in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, an area previously designated as ‘safe’.
Al-Jazeera reported that the Israeli army conducted violent raids with five missiles on displacement camps west of Khan Yunis, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries.
Medical sources confirmed that the bombing caused more than 50 deaths and numerous injuries.
The government media office in Gaza announced that among the victims were members of the Civil Defense.
The office said in a statement that relief teams are still working to retrieve the bodies and help the wounded from the bombing site, and noted that the massacre occurred while hospitals are overwhelmed and unable to accommodate the number of casualties.
An official at the Nasser Hospital informed Al-Jazeera that it had received more than 20 bodies and numerous wounded, confirming the hospital’s inability to accept more patients.

The Israeli army had previously classified the targeted area as ‘safe’, directing displaced people to seek refuge there.
Al-Jazeera also reported that the death toll from last night’s Israeli bombing of the Al-Ra’i family home in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza has risen to five, including two children.
Additionally, two people were killed and others injured when the Israeli occupation bombed a house near the Islamic University, east of Khan Yunis.
A Palestinian man and his pregnant wife were also killed when their home in east Khan Yunis was bombed.
Meanwhile, more than 10 people were reportedly injured in an Israeli bombing targeting a house on Al-Ishrin Street in the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza. Some of the injured were taken to Al-Awda Hospital in the camp, while others were transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah.
Al-Aqsa TV reported that Israeli aircraft launched violent airstrikes on the north of the Nuseirat refugee camp, in central Gaza, resulting in injuries when a missile targeted a house near Al-Riyadh School.

The White House is disregarding Israel’s deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure, Turkish President Recep Erdogan has said.
US President Joe Biden and his administration are complicit in Israeli war crimes in Gaza, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has argued, while calling for sanctions against Israel.
In an interview with Newsweek on Thursday during the annual NATO summit in Washington, the Turkish leader said that Israel’s “deliberate” attacks on civilian infrastructure in Gaza constituted war crimes.
“The brutal murder of innocent people in hospitals where they go for treatment, in ambulances, in market places, in centers where humanitarian aid is distributed, and in areas defined as safe is the gravest violation of human rights,” Erdogan stated.
Those responsible for the "barbarity in Gaza" will be held accountable under international law, just like the Srebrenica Genocide, says Turkish President Erdogan
However, according to the Turkish president, the Biden administration “disregards these violations and provides Israel with the most support.”
“They do so at the expense of being complicit in these violations,” Erdogan added.
NATO member Türkiye has repeatedly condemned Israel’s assault on Gaza and criticized Western governments for their continued backing of Israel.
Moreover, Ankara halted trade with Tel Aviv soon after the conflict began last October.
Speaking to Newsweek, Erdogan also reiterated his call to sanction Israel.
“At this juncture, who will impose what kind of sanction against Israel for violating international law? That is the real question and no one is answering that,” he said.

“In more than 30 years of humanitarian work, I have never encountered such blatant disregard for the protected status of humanitarian workers, facilities and operations under international law.”
UNRWA Chief Philippe Lazzarini has cautioned that turning a blind eye to the attacks on the UN agency in the occupied Palestinian territories could set a dangerous precedent, adding that it is being targeted for its role in safeguarding the rights of Palestinian refugees.
“In more than 30 years of humanitarian work, I have never encountered such blatant disregard for the protected status of humanitarian workers, facilities and operations under international law,” Lazzarini, the agency’s Commissioner-General said in his speech at the opening of the UNRWA Pledging Conference in New York on Friday.
He said, “Turning a blind eye to these attacks sets a dangerous precedent, undermining respect for the rules-based international order in other conflicts.”
‘Terrible Price’ Paid
In Gaza, “the Agency has paid a terrible price,” since Israel’s genocidal war on the enclave began on October 7, Lazzarini said.
A total of 195 UNRWA workers have been killed and “nearly 190 installations have been damaged or destroyed,” killing more than 500 people seeking United Nations protection.
I told Member States at the annual UN General Assembly pledging conference of @UNRWA that the Agency is under greater pressure than ever before.
This agency has been a force for stability across the region. It is a driver of human development for Palestine Refugees, providing…
The agency has repeated calls for an independent investigation into attacks on its premises in the besieged enclave.
The Commissioner-General stated that “Efforts are underway to dismantle UNRWA and change the established political parameters for peace in the occupied Palestinian territory.”
This, Lazzarini explained, “includes fierce attacks on social media, and legislative proposals to evict the Agency from its premises in East Jerusalem and to label it a terrorist organization.”
Humanitarian ‘Backbone’
“UNRWA is targeted because of its role in safeguarding the rights of Palestine Refugees, and because it embodies an international commitment to a political solution,” he stressed, adding that “Failing to push back will leave other UN entities and international organizations exposed to similar attacks.”
Lazzarini emphasized that UNRWA “is the backbone” of the humanitarian response in Gaza.
Before the war, the agency met “70-80% of primary healthcare needs in Gaza.”
He highlighted that when the pledging conference was held last June “no one could have foreseen the tragedy that would engulf Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory.”
‘Living Hell’
“Gaza is decimated. More than two million people are trapped in a living hell,” he said, having “been displaced repeatedly across a ravaged and increasingly lawless territory.”
Acute food insecurity, he added, “is claiming the lives of children and severely affecting women who often eat last and least.”
UN Commissioner, Navi Pillay, last month told the UN Human Rights Council that Israel’s “total siege” of the Gaza Strip “has weaponized the provision of life-sustaining necessities for strategic and political gains” including through cutting off supplies of water, food, electricity, fuel and other essential supplies, including humanitarian assistance.
Lazzarini said the agency’s “fundamental fiscal challenge remains” as UNRWA “lacks the resources to deliver its mandate.”
He appealed for $1.2 billion “to cover critical humanitarian needs” until the end of the year.
This appeal, and the emergency appeal for Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan are less than 20 percent funded, according to the UNRWA chief.
UN Investigation
Lazzarini also raised concern about the situation in the West Bank where he said “UNRWA’s operational space is shrinking.”
He said “arbitrary measures” imposed by Israel “severely restrict the presence and movement of our staff.”
In East Jerusalem, “violent protests outside our premises… culminated in arson attacks.”
Earlier this year, 16 UN Member States suspended funding for the agency, following Israeli allegations that UNRWA personnel were involved in the October 7 resistance operation.
A UN investigation has already closed five cases of allegations amid a notable lack of evidence given by Israel in support of its claims.
Lazzarini called on Member States to reach an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, “release all hostages” and increase the flow of humanitarian assistance. He also urged the safeguarding and support of UNRWA in order to “scale up service delivery” to Palestine refugees as well as to commit to multi-year financial commitments.
Five Palestinians were killed and more than 100 wounded in an Israeli bombardment that targeted an area crowded with displaced people west of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) announced that it will deliver an advisory opinion on July 19 regarding the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories.
“A public sitting will take place at 3 p.m. at the Peace Palace in The Hague, the seat of the Court, during which Judge Nawaf Salam, President of the Court, will read out the Advisory Opinion,” the ICJ said in a statement on Friday.
At the public hearings, Palestine’s UN envoy Riyad Mansour urged the ICJ to declare Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories illegal, emphasizing that such a ruling would pave the way for an immediate end to the occupation and the establishment of a “just and lasting peace.”
The hearings took place in the Hague from February 19 to 26 after the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution in December 2022.
UNGA Resolution 77/247 requested an advisory opinion from the ICJ on the legality of Israel’s policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territories and the consequences of Israel’s conduct for other states and the UN.
A record 52 countries presented arguments at what is also known as the World Court about the legal ramifications of Israel’s actions in the territories.
Without participating in the hearings, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement rejecting the legitimacy of the hearings, accusing them of attempting to further undermine Israel’s right to survival and self-defense.
While Israel has ignored such opinions in the past, the ICJ ruling next week could add political pressure over its devastating nine-month-old war against Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The UN-affiliated ICJ is the only international court that adjudicates general disputes between nations and provides advisory opinions on international legal issues.
Israel has experienced three billion cyberattacks targeting its military computer systems since October 7, according to reports from Israeli media on Friday.
Colonel Racheli Dembinski, commander of the army’s Center of Computers and Information Systems unit, told the Israeli newspaper Haaretz that “the number of attempted cyberattacks on IDF computer systems has reached 3 billion since the war started.”
These attacks specifically targeted the army’s main operational cloud computing systems, which include software used by ground troops to manage combat, locate forces, and share real-time information, she added.
Dembinski “did not specify the types or risk levels of the cyberattacks carried out during the war,” according to Haaretz.
The colonel reportedly claimed that all the attacks were foiled and that they did not lead to even one occasion in which the army’s systems have been taken out of order.”
Dembinsky admitted that at the onset of the October 7 attack, she “woke up and within a few minutes understood that this wasn’t a malfunction but some kind of broader attack.”
On Thursday, the Israeli army revealed that an investigation found the military was “not prepared for the extensive infiltration scenario” that occurred on that day.
Aside from the attacks on the Israeli military, “cyberattacks against Israeli private companies and government entities have increased recently,” according to the report.
Ongoing Genocide
Currently on trial before the International Court of Justice for genocide against Palestinians, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 38,345 Palestinians have been killed, and 88,295 wounded in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza starting on October 7.
Moreover, at least 11,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.
Israel says that 1,200 soldiers and civilians were killed during the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation on October 7. Israeli media published reports suggesting that many Israelis were killed on that day by ‘friendly fire’.
While others echo power, we challenge it. They fragment reality—we connect it. They exploit Palestine—we center it.
